[solved] Dialogue Boxes.

Post by IanB » Wed Jun 18, 2025 10:17 am

My Operating system is Windows 11 fully updated as far as it tells me. I am running for a number of years now QCAD Pro, currently 3.32.3.
I have had problems recently with the system just rapidly misbehaving and various windows "flashing" with no control etc, requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL to regain control of the computer.
I have completed full scans with Norton 360 and defragged and optimised the disc with no issues found.
I have uninstalled QCAD and deleted all configuration QCAD files that I can find. I have downloaded (now multiple times) a new QCAD installation file and reinstalled the whole system. Rebooting at every operation.
Whilst I still have control of the system and QCAD appears to function, the dialogue boxes from the FILE drop down menus just fill in fact overfill the screen. I have checked the system display settings and made sure they are to the RECOMMENDED, However nothing seems to reduce these dialogue boxes.
I have tried most of the fixes I can find here and elsewhere but nothing appears to work.
This scenario has played out once before a couple of years ago and a reinstall making the checks etc. fixed the issue until now.
Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Can you perhaps post a screenshot? I cannot quite imagine what you mean by "the dialogue boxes from the FILE drop down menus just fill in fact overfill the screen".

Andrew,
I can confirm that the file dialog opens in full screen.
By preference that is set to "Use system file dialog".
This dialog has no buttons to reduce its size, only the crossed close button.

IanB: I can make the file dialog full screen here if I double-click its title bar. Perhaps you can try this to go back from full screen to the smaller file dialog window.

Thank you Andrew and CVH,
I have just opened my system and I have tried to reduce the dialogue box from the FILE menu. Success. Double clicking the title bar does reduce the box to the size I have come to expect. However this must be done over towards the right hand end close to the closure X but in the blank part of the bar. There are no other symbols b y the way so its a bit of a guess.
However it works and all is back to how it should be,
Again many thanks.

Thanks Andrew.
For the record: I never ever maximized the file dialog.
It has always been displayed as maximized and that didn't bother me.
The goal was/is to browse for folders and select a file.

On double clicking it was too small for my needs.
Resizing was possible and that size is retained across sessions.

Not maximized has indeed a neater look and feel.
Perhaps that is a better suited standard setting.

Yes CVH, Once made smaller you can then resize to suit your own needs. As a personal preference I like the smaller size which I expand a just a little. It has always been that way until just once before and this time around.
At least we are now aware as to how to deal with it.
Thanks for all your and Andrew's input.
