view list

Post by alextrebus » Sun Jun 08, 2025 8:24 pm

I would like to ask to add the layer state include lock state to the viewlist function. Qcad Proversion
This would help us a lot working in more complicated drawings

Hi,

Please elaborate your proposal ...

Layer States (YM and related) record all layer attributes of the existent layers, including the locked state.
These can be updated afterwards on attribute changes or when layers are added.
A recorded state for a deleted layer has no longer any effect.
Deleting a layer can be undone.
Also see tutorial: Working with Layer States

Stored views in the View List (GV) record the zoom and offset of the GUI Viewport.
That is what is displayed in the main part of the QCAD application .. The drawing panel.
See QCAD User Reference Manual .. Stored Views or Add View… (VA).

Quickly zooming and panning to a predefined area is unrelated to any of the layer states.
You can of course combine zooming to the top side of your design and activate a certain Layer State or the bottom and another State.
The first 9 Layer States can be activated with the keyboard shortcuts Y1 - Y9.

The QCAD GUI can display up to 4 Viewports, see Drawing Preferences.
Again this is not associated with any other Layer State than the current.

Perhaps you are referring to Viewports on Layout Blocks and the visibility of certain (visible) layers in recent versions.
Refer to Manage Viewport Layers… (VY))
Similar terms for rather different things.
But I don't see what the locked nature would serve on a page layout.

CVH

first off all thank you for your swift reply,
and indeed I was mistakenly looking at the viewlist that only will save the position,
And yes the layer states is offering exady what I was looking for,

A pretty they did not update the book as a pdf. the disadvantage of the online reference is that i can't search, it would be great if they could add that function to the online reference book

I am also triying all the options for the boolean options as described.

The PDF is nothing more than a paper-less copy of the book ... The digital version saves trees.
As stated in your Boolean Function topic, the book is not regarded as the QCAD user manual.
It is 'An Introduction to Computer-Aided Design' at the hand of QCAD.

You are able to search in the off-line version included in QCAD under menu Help .. Reference Manual.
References of the online version on qcad.org can be included as a link on the forum.
Linking to your off-line copy for user reference is not possible.
Both these references are updated on regular base while QCAD evolves continuously.
